How often is the map updated? The map is updated automatically once a day. Plans for forest planting and forest maintenance works are presented for the current calendar year. Information on thinning and regeneration cutting appears on the map once a relevant forest notification has been issued.
What is a forest notification? A forest notification is a document that the forest owner uses to plan cutting and the Environment Agency checks the compliance of the planned cutting to the legal requirements. A forest notification shall be valid for a year from the date of issue.
How often does RMK issue forest notifications? Generally, RMK issues forest notifications 3 months before the start of the planned cutting. Due to extraordinary circumstances (weather, storms, forest damage, etc.), the cutting plans might change. This means that some planned cutting might be cancelled and some cutting might be rushed, and a forest notification might be issued one day before cutting commences.
Why do I see the information of several stands at once if I am only interested in one? In the case that the information request box shows information on several stands, you should enlarge the map and click on the stand of interest.
Why does RMK perform regeneration cutting in a young stand or middle age forest? Regeneration cutting is usually performed in a forest that has reached a mature age or diameter indicating ripeness, but sometimes clear cutting is also required when the forest has been damaged significantly. For instance, the reason for this might be extensive game damage in young stands, but also different forest diseases as well as storm and fire damage.
Which areas are included under protected areas? These are strictly protected areas where the forest is not managed. They are nature reserves, nature protection targeted protection zones and key biotypes located on the land of RMK but also planned nature reserves and targeted protection zones.
Although the forest is not managed in these areas, nature protection works, including cutting, might also be performed there to improve the condition of the habitat of endangered species or species in an unfavourable state.
