RMK takes booking of forest houses online 13.10

The State Forest Management Centre (RMK) started its transition to the new online booking system for the forest houses located all over Estonia. During the year-long pilot project, the booking service will be provided by the environment nordicrent.ee, and the web page for booking the houses is also accessible through RMK’s web page loodusegakoos.ee.
According to Marge Rammo, Head of the Nature Preservation Department of RMK, in summer the most popular forest houses are typically rented out to holidaymakers every other day. “People have been very interested in the opportunity, and finding and booking a suitable forest house online is definitely faster and more convenient for users,” explained Rammo, according to whom forest houses can also be booked via e-mail or telephone. In addition to the forest houses, RMK still has 28 forest huts in different areas of Estonia than can be used by all hikers for free, without prior booking and based on everyman’s right.

In total, RMK has 18 forest houses located in nine counties across Estonia, capable of accommodating groups of 2-20 people. RMK’s forest houses can be viewed, checked for vacancies and booked on the web page for nature hikers, loodusegakoos.ee, and in the web environment of www.nordicrent.ee. Until the end of the year, for testing purposes, it is possible to rent out nine of the most popular houses. Starting in the New Year, the rest of the forest houses will be added to the web-based booking system.

RMK’s forest houses can be booked for up to two consecutive 24-hour periods. People under 18 can book and use the forest houses only together with an adult. It is also possible to make arrangements for additional services, like a nature programme, nature hike or transportation.
