Research seminar on forestry to be held in Tartu 30.01

Registration is now open for the fourth RMK research seminar, to be held on 12 February in the Dorpat Conference Centre, in Tartu, where the (interim) results of sustainable forestry surveys will be presented.

The fourth RMK research seminar will bring to the participants recent proposals by scientists for improving the legislative process, introduce the possibilities of using spruce stumps in energy production and restoring the habitats of the wood grouse. An overview of their scientific work will be given also by doctoral candidates from the University of Tartu and the Estonian University of Life Sciences Doctoral School of Earth Sciences and Ecology.

The RMK research seminar, held in the Dorpat Conference Centre, is free of charge and all employees of the forestry and nature conservation field, forest owners, students and all other interested individuals, are invited to participate. Registration is open for the seminar on RMK’s homepage until 9 February.

RMK began targeted support for research work in 2008. To date, 11 applied research projects have been funded in the total sum of EUR 1.1 million.

RMK is the keeper, protector and manager of the forest and other natural biotic communities belonging to the Republic of Estonia. RMK earns a profit for the state through forest management, growing reforestation material, and organising forest and nature conservation works. In addition, RMK establishes opportunities for nature walking in recreational and protected areas and shapes nature awareness. RMK consists of the Sagadi Forest Centre, the Elistvere Animal Park, the Tartu Tree Nursery, 70% of the Estonian-Finnish joint company AS Eesti Metsataim and the Põlula Fish Farm. More than 700 people work for RMK.
